Saving a voice message
Voice messages are ordinary audio files (usually Opus or M4A) once they are saved.
On the phone
- Long-press the voice message.
- iPhone: ⋯ → Share → Save to Files. Android: Share → save it or send it to yourself.
- Open this page on the phone and choose the saved file.
On a computer
- Open the chat in WhatsApp Desktop or WhatsApp Web.
- Hover the voice message, open its menu and choose Download.
- Drop the downloaded file into the box above.
On the phone
- Long-press the voice message and choose Save to Downloads (Android) or Share → Save to Files (iPhone).
- Open this page on the phone and choose the saved file.
On a computer
- Right-click the voice message in Telegram Desktop.
- Choose Save As and pick a folder.

- Does the message go to any server?
- No. It is transcribed in this browser tab. That matters for private messages: nobody else hears or reads them.
- Which formats do voice messages use?
- WhatsApp and Telegram mostly use Opus in an .ogg or .opus file; iPhones sometimes save .m4a. All of them work here.
