MP4 to text — transcribe a video file without uploading it
An MP4 carries its sound in an AAC track; this page reads that track straight from the file on your device and writes it out as text — with the video playing alongside so you can follow along.

What is inside a subtitle file
Every cue the transcriber writes has three parts. Click a cue in the Subtitles view to hear it.
1 00:00:00,000 --> 00:00:02,640 And so, my fellow Americans,
- Cue number
- When it shows, to the millisecond
- What is said
SRT is what video editors and YouTube take; VTT is what web players read. Both come from the same cues.

How it works
- Drop an audio or video file into the box above, or choose one from your device.
- The speech model loads in your browser and the text appears as it is transcribed. The file is never uploaded.
- Copy the transcript, or download it as TXT or as SRT subtitles.
FAQ
- Do I need to extract the audio first?
- No. Drop the MP4 as it is; the sound track is read directly. Only for videos longer than about 35 minutes is it worth exporting the audio as MP3, which has no length limit.
- Can I get subtitles for the video?
- Yes. Download SRT for editors and YouTube, or VTT for web players. Both are timed from the same lines you see on screen.
